In 2017 the Hawke's Bay A&P Society will host the New Zealand Royal A&P Show at Hawke's Bay on Show, the third Royal Show of our tenure.
The Premier Agricultural Show in New Zealand will bring competitors from all over New Zealand to compete for the coveted tri colour ribbon.
Showgrounds Hawke’s Bay will be filled with more animals than have been seen here for many years, with Alpaca, Beef Cattle, Dairy Cattle, Dog Trials, Equestrian, Fleece Wool, Pigs and Sheep as well as Shearing, Wood Chopping, Poultry and Home Industries.
Alongside these competitions will be more than 240 trade displays, Animal World, Mahons Amusements and sideshows and plenty of homegrown entertainment.
Each year we host around 25,000 over three days at what is touted as Hawke’s Bay’s largest gathering. It is the largest event held on Hawke’s Bay Anniversary Day.

TRADE SITES at 2017 royal show
Major changes are afoot for the 2017 Hawke’s Bay Show which will see one of Hawke’s Bay’s biggest events move to a two day public Show open Thursday and Friday only, and the addition of an exciting Thursday night ‘Showtime Spectacular’ event. The Show will extend into the night on Thursday, staying open until 10pm.
2017 Show hours will be:
Thursday 19 October 8.30am – 10pm
Friday 20 October 8.30am – 5pm
We have done a lot of research into demographics, event trends and the changing expectations of our community about how they want to spend their spare time and socialise with family and friends. This has led to a major restructure of the traditional Hawke’s Bay Show.
The Show also falls on the first long weekend since June, and for many that means packing the car and heading away. That combined with the Show being held midweek and during the day, can be very hard for a family who are working and at School to find time to attend. So we had to take all of these factors into account.
We believe these changes are very positive for the Show. We are aiming to attract the same, if not more people to the Show days, condensing the entertainment, shopping and activity into two days instead of three.
The ‘Showtime Spectacular’ night event will attract a new audience altogether who may not have traditionally attended the Show during the day. We have a clear marketing plan in place to attract these visitors, to ensure you have a great experience as trade exhibitors.
The ‘Showtime Spectacular’ event will run until 10pm Thursday night with the full Show remaining open including trade stalls, food and Mahons Amusements’ “Moonlight Madness” Sideshow area will be awash with flashing lights and late night Carnival fun.
There will be special events and entertainment of a rural theme in the Main Arena including entertainers, live music and A&P theatrics so Show visitors can sit in the Grandstand and enjoy the fun.
